Cascading Garden: A Sustainable and Space-Saving Planter

Designed by CedarCraft

The Cascading Garden planter by CedarCraft is a unique and sustainable solution for limited space gardening. Whether you have a small backyard, a deck, a porch, or just a balcony, this planter allows you to grow your own fresh herbs, vegetables, and flowers.

The Cascading Garden planter stands out from others in its category due to its three-tiered design and use of rescued cedar wood. The vertical structure maximizes gardening space, while the tiered layout allows for a variety of plants to be grown. Assembly is quick and easy, requiring no tools or hardware, thanks to specially cut components that slide and interlock seamlessly.

What sets the Cascading Garden planter apart is its commitment to sustainability. CedarCraft uses 100% sustainably grown untreated Western Red Cedar, ensuring no new trees are specifically harvested for the production of these planters. Instead, the company utilizes "rescued" pieces of milled cedar wood that would otherwise be discarded. These odd-length remnants are collected, glued together, and crafted into beautifully functional garden planters.

The realization of the Cascading Garden planter involved a combination of innovative design and sustainable practices. The elevated design and absence of screws or nails not only enhance the planter's functionality but also contribute to its aesthetic appeal. The use of finger jointing and edge gluing allows for the creation of wood panels that are both durable and visually pleasing.

With outer dimensions of 86cm W x 97cm L x 94cm H, the Cascading Garden planter provides ample planting space. Each tier offers a planting area of 30cm W x 90cm L x 17cm depth, with a soil capacity of 0.085 cubic meters. These specifications make it suitable for a wide range of plants, from small herbs to larger vegetables.

The team behind the Cascading Garden planter includes Glen Dobi, Jack Janse, Doug Tracey, John Halac, Glenn Griffin, Scott Haskins, Ryan Rooke, Lindsey Mellard, Penny VanBaale, and Liza Boccaccio. Their combined expertise and dedication have resulted in a design that seamlessly combines functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics.

The Cascading Garden planter has garnered recognition in the design community, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The planter's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and positive impact on the environment make it a deserving recipient of this accolade.
